A St. Paul’s Family
At St. Paul’s, we know that our parents are the primary stewards of our students’ hearts and souls, and we are overjoyed to walk alongside them in partnership to give their children the education they deserve.
We sat down with the mother of one of our first-grade students to learn more about their family and learn how we can best serve them.

A Conversation with a Mother
Azucena Salina is originally from Chihuahua, Mexico. She moved to Oklahoma City five years ago with her nine-year-old son, Angel and two-year-old daughter, Leah. She arrived in Oklahoma after going through tough times. Fast-forward five years and she works as a house cleaner to supports her eighth-grader in Epic Charter schools, her first-grader at St. Paul’s, and her healthy two-year old at home. It is clear to see she is a hard-working mother who cares deeply about the future of her children. Read below for the details of our conversation with Azucena.
How did you find out about St. Paul’s Community School?
My pastor at Rancho Village Baptist Church recommended the school to me. I began my own research and fell in love with the vision and mission of the school.
What differences have you seen in Leah since she began at St. Paul’s?
Leah has grown in her language ability and is much more capable of expressing herself well. She has more motivation in school to do well and has developed dreams and goals for herself.
What are the dreams and goals she has developed?
Leah wants to become a doctor. She hopes to work with children as a pediatrician.
What are the character traits you hope to see grow in Leah during her time at St. Paul’s?
I hope she continues to grow in honesty, kindness, godliness, and discipline as she continues to love learning more and more.
What is your favorite thing about St. Paul’s?
My favorite thing is that this school is founded on a love for God and teaches children to grow in their love for God. I also love that the school has small class sizes that allows the community to feel more like family. It is important that St. Paul’s understands individual needs and knows us all on a personal level.
What are the ways that we can be praying for you and your family?
We would appreciate prayers for health during this time. It has been hard to continue working when we’ve gotten sick. Pray that I would continue to have work and stay healthy so that I can provide for my family.

Is there anything you would change about St. Paul’s?
I wish that I had assurance that Leah could stay in this school for the rest of her education. When we began at St. Paul’s, my son was in middle school, and I wish I could have sent him here as well.
